• Southmoreland High School is located in East Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, 40 miles east of downtown Pittsburgh. The school is part of the Southmoreland School District, a small, rural-fringe, public school districtt located in northern Fayette County, PA and southern Westmoreland County, PA. The boroughs of Scottdale and Everson, as well as the townships of East Huntingdon and Upper Tyrone are within district boundaries. Southmoreland School District encompasses approximately 51 square miles, with a community of 15,000 residents.

    Southmoreland High School is a comprehensive four-year high school, with eight 43-minute periods per day.  The staff is comprised of 55 professionals, including two administrators, two school counselors, 40 classroom teachers, one nurse, three administrative assistants, and three para-educators.  Currently, there are 540 students enrolled at SHS. 

    A minimum of 25 credits is required to graduate from Southmoreland High School.  There are more than 135 course offerings, and most classes are heterogeneously group. 

    Advanced Placement courses are available for enrollment in the subjects of Calculus (AB), Chemistry, Physics 1, Physics 2, Biology, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, United States Government and Politics, United States History, World History, European History, Music Theory and Statistics.

    Dual enrollment courses are available in English Literature, American Politics, Physics 1, and Calculus 1.

    There are 14 varsity sports and a majority of the teams compete in the PIAA “AAA” classification.
