Student Assistance Program

  • SAP is a school program designed to intervene with students and families where chemical/alcohol and other forms of abuse have become problematic.  Such activities affect the student's educational, social and emotional growth. The program is designed to offer support rather than punishment for these problems.  An SAP Team, compromised of administrators, teachers, counselors, health care and agency representatives, has been trained to deal with At-Risk students. They meet weekly to discuss referrals.

Students may be referred to the Student Assistance Program by teachers, parents, fellow students, police, community members’ agencies and themselves.  A student's involvement in the program is voluntary and will be held confidential. It will not become part of the permanent record.  For further information regarding the Student Assistance Program at Southmoreland contact a guidance counselor or the school nurse.
